With the wonderful help from Anna’s mom and Ava’s mom, we took on the sewing machines! The girls sewed together ditty bags and covers for our paddles, made out of old bed sheets and nylon fabric. The girls either already knew how to sew or they caught on really quickly. The tricky part was fixing the machines when they got snagged up. It was super cool to see the girls learn a new handy skill and to make something we’ll use everyday on trail!
After a successful morning of sewing we headed over to basecamp to work on our route! We made really good progress. The girls are looking forward to going to Sasaginnigak Lake to hopefully see pictographs, write our names on a fire tower, and find the voyageur cliff jumping spot. They also have decided to take on a named portage, “Lil Sas”, and head up North to end on the Berens River. One more meeting and we’ll have it complete!
