Meeting Today

Our meeting today, June 3rd, was action packed.

We started off at the dehydrator to start dehydrating all our jerky post Jerky day. We’ll have to check it later tonight as it’ll take around 12 hours to dehydrate. After our dehydrator stop we went back to Basecamp and divided up our gear while also setting up maps and continued planning our route. We’re getting the area we want to go through set in stone.

We finished with another portage down pine point (longer than the first time) and continued working on our paddling. For Tommy and Isiah it was their first time, while the rest of the crew had their second time in the canoe. Much more to come this week!

JERKY DAY

This morning we had Jerky Day!

We cut up all the meat for the jerky we are gonna eat EVERYDAY on trail. We spent the morning trimming the fat off so it would dehydrate well. We then packaged up our raw jerky and have to let it marinate before we start to dehydrate it this week. We had a good morning with a couple hours spent with the other color coordinated crews (we wore pink).

We have lots of meetings upcoming so stay tuned.

Recently

Hi! we’ve started to get pretty busy as summer is here.

On our recent meetings we’ve been focusing on some hard skills such as knot tying, canoeing, and portaging. We’ve been getting everyone out on the water to start to learn how to paddle and we flipped the boats up (much more of this to come) to portage down Pine Point. We also worked on knot tying and learning some new knots that we are going to use during our trip. Overall it was a productive 2 weeks, with Connor and I finishing our guide training with a trip to Duluth. As the days count down to the beginning of our trip we have been doing well at getting some physical skills learned, and ended with a swim in the river.

First Week!

This week we had two very productive meetings on Wednesday and Thursday! Right away we worked on flipping up our canoes and getting some maps set up. We also went over some of the questions for the trip and a tour of basecamp! The second meeting we worked on getting our menu ready and finalized before we have to start food packing. Overall this week was a success! Much more to come!

Hey everyone!

Hi my name is George Larson and I’m one of the guides for the expeditions this summer.

I am a sophomore at the University of Miami and I’m studying Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. I went on my first year trip in the summer of 2023 and did my far north trip with Conner in 2024 on the Coppermine. This will be my third trip with the program. I think this summer will be an awesome time and I am really looking forward to it! I enjoy being outside, working out, and like to play club rugby in Miami. If you have any questions feel free to reach out to me or Connor!

Meet Your Guides: Connor Hanson

Hello crew members and parents! My name is Connor Hanson, and I am looking forward to being one of the guides for the Hanson/Larson crew this summer! This will be my fourth trip with the program, as I went on my First Year trip in 2022, did a Far North trip in 2024, and guided a crew last summer as well.

Currently, I am a sophomore at the University of Wisconsin- Eau Claire, majoring in Geospatial Analysis & Technology. I like to do things that involve being outside, like running and hiking, and I am running my second marathon in a couple of weeks! Other hobbies include listening to music and playing the wii with my roommates.

I’m so excited to get back on trail and guide this great group of young men, and I am looking forward to meeting all you boys and your parents. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me anytime.
