Menu Planning!

On Wednesday the boys all got together and tackled food planning for the trip! They worked together to plan our breakfasts, lunches, and dinners. Let’s just say, there could be a lot of Spam and Corn Nuts in our future! The boys collaborated, deciding on whether or not they wanted to bring foods like tuna, Jell-O, grape nuts, and spaghetti on trail. These are big decisions but Forrest and I couldn’t have asked for it to go any better. While some of them preferred corn over broccoli, pineapple over mangos, or even Spam over hamburger, they all understood the importance of making sure everyone’s voice was heard and their preferences all taken into consideration. We can already see the chemistry forming between this awesome group of guys, and we are incredibly proud of them. This weekend we plan to get out on the water with a few of the boys and do some paddling and during our next full meeting with all of them, they are going to start planning out their route for the trip. This is super exciting stuff and we can’t wait to see what the next few weeks have in store!

First Meeting!

First meeting is in the books and it could not have gone better. We reviewed crew expectations, both from Griffen and I as guides, as well as what our crew wants from the trip. The crew was then presented with a stack of maps that, when laid out correctly, display the area which we can choose our route from. They managed to complete this activity in a timely fashion while working together without any help from their guides. We also sanded our paddles to get them ready for the awesome designs that are sure to come. Next we took our adventure outside to learn how to flip a canoe up onto your shoulders and portage with it. We finished up the day with learning some basic knots that we will be using. It was incredible to watch all these young men succeed today an I look forward to getting to know them all even more.

Hello!

Hello!

Hello and welcome to the Noeske/Ward crew blog. My name is Forrest Noeske and this will be my first time as a guide. I went on my first trip in 2023 in the same area we will be traversing this summer, and went on a far North trip to the Artic Ocean via the Coppermine river this previous summer. I am very excited to be working with all these young voyaguers and getting them prepared for the experience of a lifetime. Both Griffen and I will post updates regarding the status of our crew and what we have been working on here, so feel free to check in often once we start our meetings. Contact information for each of us can be found on our crew page as well, please reach out to either of us if you have questions or concerns.
